The mission of the Pediatric Neuro Recovery Program is to restore neurological function and maximize recovery of children who are impaired by neurological disorders of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. Every child that suffers from neurological disadvantage needs specialized rehabilitation to regain skills, abilities and address new challenges resulting from their injury.
At our clinic, we provide detailed evaluation and treatment from babies to adolescents with a variety of conditions and impairments to achieve maximum physical strength and mobility, cognitive and communicative potential, and to build function and independence. Our goal is to help them succeed and reach their fullest potential.
The Program consists of:
1) 1st consult:
The doctor would meet the patient/caregivers to gather information & history taking, education & discussion of the impairment, discussion on the appropriate therapy & expectations, neurological/cognitive diagnosis (if time permitting).
2) 2nd session:
The doctor performs neurological/cognitive diagnosis.
3) Therapy sessions:
Individualized treatment plans are created for each patient experiencing difficulties as a result of brain injury or other related neurological impairments.
Patients can expect to receive therapy that includes different types Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation (NIBS) such as TMS, tDCS, tVNS, etc., together with Cognitive or Motor tasks.
NIBS is performed intensively in intervals of 5 days a week for a period of 3-4 weeks. In between the intensive sessions cycles, patients will only be given specific home tasks to do. This cycle is continued till patient recovers.
4) Follow ups:
The doctor will work closely with the patients/caregivers to help them reach therapy goals.
In summary, what is unique about our program is the customization of the child’s’ treatment plan which uses the latest scientific approaches in NIBS in combination with cognitive and/or motor tasks. This plan is designed to maximize function, maximize growth and development in cognition and physical ability.
